“Suddenly she realized that what she was regretting was not the lost past but the lost future, not what had not been but what would never be.”—F. Scott Fitzgerald, A Nice Quiet Place (via pipeschapman)
So, I’ve been reading pages of pages of tags on this and I haven’t found a single other person who feels the way I do.
It was not very good.
Sure, we have an episode cram packed with references to as many Doctor’s as humanly possible. We have a story line which had MASSIVE potential. I mean, the Doctor finally getting to save his people and a new mission to seek them out is pretty amazing. We knew that Billie Piper was coming back as well as David Tennant. I think there were just so much more potential.
Rose was “Bad Wolf” and existing within the episode solely to help the Doctor and didn’t do anything herself. For the most part, she wasn’t even herself. She was just a projection and a shell that kind of helped the Doctor make up his mind only for Clara to be the one to ultimately change it. It really displayed Moffat’s inability to do anything interesting with female characters. And there was almost no time spent between Rose and Ten except for some quip about kissing later in the show. Ten and Eleven barely even react to the mention of “Bad Wolf Girl.”
River wasn’t there, which was insanely disappointing.
It was hugely anti-climatic and full of plot holes. Why were they able to cross their own timelines? Why were they able to change the history of Gallifrey which has previously been regarded as a fixed point in time? What happened to the entire plot involving the Zygons? WHY ON EARTH WOULD TEN MARRY QUEEN ELIZABETH?
I’m extremely happy for what the moment meant for Whovians who have been around and been watching the show for much longer than I have. I’m over the moon that so many people were able to connect on Tumblr, the internet, and real life to gather for this event. I’m proud that a show like this has been able to last for this long.
But it had so much more potential and I believe it was ruined by poor writing skills.
